If you like pencils, you may have found that their capacity to be sharpened and have their marks erased can result in some unwanted detritus in the form of wood shavings and eraser crumbles. That’s where a desk brush comes in handy. It is a nice accessory for keeping a work area tidy.
This particular desk brush is from Andrée Jardin, and designed by Amaury Poudray.
The brush has the unexpected quality of being balanced so that it can stand on end. The handle is oak and the bristles are Argentinian horsehair.
The packaging is simple but appealing:
This particular version with a graphite colour dipped handle is a limited edition, but a number of varieties are available from Andrée Jardin.
Thank you for introducing us to this brush. It looks good and the fact that you can stand it seems clever.
I wonder whether people who use pencils professionally, e.g. artists, use brushes like this even today.
It kind of is a timeless tool. In the past people threw sand on their documents to dry the ink and then brushed the sand away. These days office workers can use these brushes to wipe the crumbs left by their sandwiches off the table after lunch. In my office we certainly all would benefit from a brush like that.
Nice !!
There was a line in “The Wombles” about Mme Cholet rearranging the dust.
Nice to have a clean desk, but just look at the state of this floor!
For the floor, perhaps something from the Granville Island Broom Co. will do the job?
Michael, thank you for the comment.
